PHEHP Webinar: Vagal Love = Self Love
This PHEHP webinar for APHA members is dedicated to self-care. Have you wondered how your brain and body work together to regulate your nervous system and generate a stress response or a relaxation response? In this workshop we'll introduce ourselves to the wonder of the vagus nerve, one of the physiological mechanisms that is part of nervous system regulation. We'll explore how the vagus nerve relates to sensations/feelings in the body and emotions. Then we'll get vagal'd by trying on different bodily support activities that gently tone the vagus nerve. Just like a muscle, this nerve has motor fibers that can be strengthened. The session includes 10 minutes of optional invited shaking the body out to music, trying on measured breathing, using an auditory exhale or humming, and discussing how the use of cold-water therapy can help the nervous system.
